Ben Daubney

Hello!

Thanks for visiting my little website. It's nice to have a little home on the web away from big platform holders, isn't it?

Work:

I work in the market research industry, collating and interpreting survey data. I'm certified by the Market Research Society and trained in Python and SPSS.

My particular niche is delivering stories rather than data tables - I specialise in interpreting data, creating a narrative, and delivering it to senior stakeholders. I think a lot about narrative structures and leaving my audience with actionable insights.

The industry is changing quite significantly. Market research tends to sit within consultancy firms and any sort of customer insight often falls within marketing teams or specialists in companies that provide survey software. It's an interesting time for an interesting industry.

I am currently Director of Strategic Insights for EMEA at InMoment, a 'customer experience' platform provider (surveys, reviews, social listening etc) that offers consulting and analysis as an additional service. I look after a team of data scientists, statisticians, machine learning experts and generally awesome people who tell amazing stories with CX and market research data.

Home:

I live in the south of England with my wife, an extensive record collection, and some house martins nesting on the roof.

I listen to a lot of music. I've not stopped buying records, tapes, and CDs since I was a toddler. I'm never happier than when I'm flipping through crates in a record shop. I write about music a fair bit too.

Here are some things that I love in no particular order:

Raspberry Pi, Neil Hannon, Field Notes, Talking Heads, Jonathan Franzen, collecting sea glass, Scott Walker, blue sky in video games, record collecting

(Oh, and about once a week I update my /now page with things I'm enjoying at the moment.)
